Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport
| Client Challenge: |
Reduce operating costs, centralize maintenance activities, better serve growing operations out of Hartsfield, and streamline overhead costs to remain competitive in commodity market environment. |

| PRIME Solution: |
Convert existing hangar facility to accommodate operational and administrative support functions as well as establish the company’s image. |
This new 76,000 square foot maintenance facility is the first to be commissioned by AirTran Airways and will help to establish the company’s image as well as serve their programmatic needs. The 56,000 square foot hangar accommodates three B-717 aircraft or one B-757. The 75 foot tall hangar is covered with a translucent, fabric membrane roof that maximizes natural daylight and illuminates rooftop signage from within at night. Operational and administrative support functions are housed in an adjoining, conventionally steel-framed structure. This 20,000 sf building is scaled and shaped to complement the size and curvature of the hangar. It presents a 30-foot tall, 120-foot long curving glass face to the public street. The second floor of this structure houses management offices, engineering and administrative areas, and conference rooms. The ground floor of this structure has direct access to the hangar and is programmed to directly support maintenance operations.
Second floor site elements include the following:
- Employee parking for 103 vehicles
- Airport security fencing and controlled access to AOA
- Extension of Taxiway A3 to serve hangar
- Extension of the airfield lighting system
- Modifications to existing city owned jet engine run-up area
- 95,000 square foot Aircraft parking apron
- Industrial wastewater pretreatment system
- First flush stormwater quality management system
- Utility and grading accommodations for future hangar
- Utility systems including sanitary sewer, domestic and fire suppression water, stormwater sewers, and natural gas.
- Emergency generator and air compressors
