Prime Engineering is currently seeking a reliable, detail-orientated Lead Power Systems Engineer to join our team.

The Electrical Engineering Department executes an array of electrical projects from small controls and power upgrades to full building power designs.  We work in all aspects of Primes’ portfolio, from Industrial to Aviation to Municipal clients.  These projects require engineers to interact with Clients, work with their Client to develop solutions, and successfully execute these projects to make their Client successful. These projects require the ability to troubleshoot and interpret conditions to develop desirable solutions.

For the Lead Power Systems Engineer, the following specific duties & responsibilities shall apply:

  • Perform marketing, project development, and proposal development for Power System Studies, Arc Flash Investigations, electrical upgrade, and multi-discipline projects
  • Regularly meeting and corresponding with clients or outside personnel
  • Developing scope of work, conceptual design, and execution plans
  • Preparing engineering cost and man-hour estimates and schedules
  • Performing Project Management duties on electrical discipline projects
  • Performing Lead Engineer duties on multi-discipline power projects.
  • Provide leadership, guidance, instruction, and mentorship to less experienced team members
  • Preparing or directing the creation of construction documents for the installation of new or modifications of existing facility electrical systems
  • Developing or directing the creation of equipment specifications
  • Coordinating project design assignments and design teams locally and with other office locations
  • Provide guidance and field engineering support to construction and startup personnel during construction and commissioning
  • Perform Onsite walkdowns and verifications to support Business Development, Power Studies, As-Builts, etc.
  • Coordinate departmental and divisional initiatives locally and with other office locations.
  • This position requires approximately 30% travel to Client offices and field project sites.
  • Work experience which demonstrates progressive design and management responsibilities as well as knowledge of power systems and engineering designs. Has experience with design scope development, budget preparation and project execution meeting schedule requirements and maintaining established budgets. This position requires an individual capable of applying intensive and diversified knowledge of principles and practices to broad areas of assignments. Must be capable of interpreting and developing solutions to complex problems.
  • All other duties as assigned.


  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from accredited program.
  • Minimum 15 years of related experience.
  • Experience in power generating facilities, process facilities, and/or large industrial facilities including the following design types, is strongly preferred: medium voltage, low voltage, lighting, grounding, electrical equipment control, protective relaying and associated systems design and construction administration.
  • Software experience utilizing SKM Power Tools, ETAP, Easy Power, or similar software is preferred.
  • Excellent written & verbal communications as well as strong analytical & problem-solving skills are required.
  • Previous consulting engineering experience preferred.
  • PE is required.
